Funding is Available for School Districts in Michigan
Michigan Clean Bus Energy Grant
As of September 2024, there is nearly $80 million of grant funding available for the purchase of clean school buses and the associated charging stations and infrastructure for electric school buses in the state of Michigan.
This grant program aims to reduce diesel emissions, improve air quality and public health, prioritize funding for localities with documented environmental and public health challenges across Michigan, and incentivize the utilization of technologies that have the greatest emissions reduction to meet the goals of the MI Healthy Climate Plan.
Key Details:
- All Michigan public school districts are eligible to apply
- All school bus types (Type A-D) are eligible
- Districts can apply for up to 10 buses or 50% of their fleet
- Districts can receive 70% of project costs, and districts that meet additional criteria can receive up to 90% of project costs

EXISTING FLEET INFORMATION
Gather and collect all of the required information for each of your buses – including specifics like VINs, model engine year, vehicle age and titles, and confirm adherence to the program’s vehicle operational requirements.
SUPPORTING DOCUMENTATION
Compile all of the support letters relevant to your application. One or more of the following letters are required:
- School Board Awareness Certificate
- Utilities Awareness Certification
- Service Level Agreement
- Competitive Bus Bids
